The Song of My Cid
Introduction
The Song of My Cid is an anonymous epic poem that recounts heroic exploits inspired by the latter years in the life of the Castilian gentleman Don Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar. It is the first extensive narrative work in Spanish literature penned in a Romance language.
The Spanish Royal Mint, wishing to pay tribute to one of the most important works in the history of Spanish literature, has minted three theme-related collector coins.

To mark the occasion of the homage paid to the work "The Song of My Cid", the Spanish Royal Mint is presenting an outstanding set of proof quality coins minted in gold and silver.
The coins may be acquired singly, each in its own case, or as a complete set.

The obverse reproduces an anonymous likeness of the Cid Campeador drawn in the 19th century.
The reverse reproduces a fragment taken from the title page of the "Chronicles of the very industrious gentleman the Cid Ruy Diaz Campeador" that is housed in Spain's National Library.
Cincuentín silver
The obverse portrays the equestrian statue of the Cid Campeador located in the city of Burgos and a depiction of the cathedral of this Castilian city.
The reverse shows a setting with medieval musicians under a series of arches.
8-reales silver
On the obverse is rendered a likeness of Doña Jimena, wife of the Cid Campeador.
The reverse features the image of a medieval monk copying a text.
