Europa Program - Philip II

Introduction

In 2004, coinciding with the expansion of the European Union, several Mints from the old continent joined forces in the numismtic program entitled Europa, for the purpose of minting collector coins with a common theme.

Under the heading "European Heritage" the Royal Spanish Mint is issuing the 6th Series of collector coins in the Europa Program. This new issue is dedicated to the commemoration of King Philip II "the Prudent" (1527-1598), known for his sovereignty over a vast empire that encompassed extensive dominions in the five continents, and for modernizing the administration of the Spanish Monarchy.

Other releases under the Europa Program: (2004) (2005) (2006) (2007) (2008) (2010) (2011)
