75th birthday of His Majesty the King - Proof

Introduction

January 5th 2013 marked the 75th birthday of His Majesty the King, who was born in Rome where the royal family was living at the time.

Subsequent to the release of the 30-euro silver coin featuring the four-way latent image, which makes it such a special item, the Spanish Royal Mint is launching a collector coin set in proof quality showing different motifs and with the added interest of two of the coins being made to fit inside two others.

The set is composed of four proof quality coins, each one coin-cased and presented in a display case.

A certificate of authenticity issued by the FNMT-RCM accompanies the coins.

The coins are sold either as single items or as independent sets each composed of two coins that can be fitted together.

The coins in this collector set are complementary in that they have been designed to allow each pair to fit together and form a single coin. The process is described on this page.

Cincuentín - silver

The reverse motif shows Madrid's Royal Palace. A fleur de lys shape is placed at top center. At right the coat-of-arms of His Majesty the king.

The obverse contains a center recess able to accommodate this set's 5-euro coin on which is portrayed the likeness of His Majesty King Juan Carlos (although fitting the coins together is not recommended for fear of impairing coin quality.) Arrayed around this central area are depictions of the coats-of-arms of Spain's Autonomous Communities and Cities.

1/25th ounce gold coin

The reverse exhibits, as the main motif, a rendering of three fleur de lys shapes. On the lower part of the coin, at left, is a further fleur de lys atop the number 75. A beaded edge delimits the motifs and texts.

The obverse portrays the likeness of His Majesty King Juan Carlos.

8 reales - silver

The reverse has a recessed central area that accommodates this set's 20-euro coin that features the Royal Crown (although fitting the coins together is not recommended for fear of impairing coin quality). Shown below this is the Collar of the Most Illustrious Order of the Golden Fleece. Displayed around the central area are depictions of the coats of arms of Spain's Autonomous Communities and Cities.

The obverse portrays the likeness of His Majesty King Juan Carlos.

Vermeil coin

The reverse reproduces an allegory of Spain embracing the Constitution, founded on a composition by the sculptor Ponciano Ponzano that embellishes the pediment of the Chamber of Deputies building. The lower part of the coin shows the Collar of the Most Illustrious Order of the Golden Fleece.

The obverse shows a bust of His Majesty King Juan Carlos, against a background representation of the Flag of Spain, on which the royal crown is pictured at upper left.

Fitting the coins together

These coins are a work of artisanship of great importance and precision. The coins in this set come in complementary pairs that have been designed so that each pair fits together to form another coin.

NOTE: The coins in this set are minted using handcrafting procedures, with specially treated blanks and dies that provide the maximum proof quality, and they undergo strict quality control measures. Any handling of the coins might impair this quality.
