2 Euro commemorative coin
During the first half of 2009, it was issued a new 2 euro coin to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU).
The design, chosen from among the five pre-selected via online voting by citizens of the European Union, is an intentionally primitive drawing by George Stamatopoulos, a sculptor from the Central Bank of Greece.
It symbolizes the long history of trading operations ranging from prehistoric bartering to the Economic and Monetary Union, of which the Euro forms part.
