On the occasion of the celebration of the 5th centenary of the 1st-Round-the-World trip, the Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre-Real Casa de la Moneda is issuing a commemorative €2 coin in the year that celebrates the arrival in Spain of the crew that set off on the expedition in 1519.
The obverse of the coin shows the image of Juan Sebastián Elcano on a background of a globe, taken from the portrait in the Naval Museum in Madrid, above the legends "1519 1522, JUAN SEBASTIÁN ELCANO" and "PRIMUS CIRCUMDEDISTI ME". The common reverse of the coin shows the numeral representing its value, together with six vertical lines on which twelve stars are superimposed. On the right-hand side is also a representation of the European continent.
This blister, with a maximum mintage of 5,000 pieces, presents the coin in a protective capsule, but which, at the same time, allows both sides of the coin to be observed.
