Prior to the introduction of the European Monetary System it was customary for the FNMT-RCM to mint, annually, a silver coin with a face value of 2,000 peseta. This tradition has now been carried over as a non-circulating silver coin face valued 12 Euro. The overlapping profiles of the Spanish King and Queen have been reproduced on the obverse and the symbol of the E.U. Presidency is depicted on the reverse.
