Description
In 2021, taking advantage of the celebration of the European Year of the Railway and the 80th Anniversary of Renfe, the Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre-Real Casa de la Moneda issued a collection of coins dedicated to the History of the Railway, in order to show our customers the evolution of one of the most important means of transport in Humanity.
This collection has a similar structure to those previously dedicated to the History of Aviation and Navigation, and consists of 20 coins whose obverses show full-colour images of locomotives or trains which for one reason or another have been important throughout their history, while the reverse, common to all of them, bears the legend HISTORY OF RAILWAYS on the image of a railway track as background.
All the pieces, minted in cupronickel, have the same diameter (33 mm) and a face value of €1.5. The maximum mintage of this collection is 7,000 pieces.
These coins can be purchased individually. Together with the coins, an album is on sale in which they can be placed and which also contains a book with detailed information on each of the trains and/or locomotives included in the collection, as well as on the manufacturing process of the pieces and other details of interest.
If you wish, you can subscribe and receive the complete collection at home, free of shipping costs, in four monthly instalments of five coins.
Below you can find the pieces that make up this series. Click on the name of the train or locomotive to see an enlarged image of the corresponding coin.
