12- and 2-Euro coins - 4th centenary of the publication of Cervantes' "Quixote"
Introduction
The year 2005 marks the 4th Centenary of the first edition of «The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of la Mancha» by Miguel de Cervantes, one of the masterpieces of world literature.
We have marked this occasion with the release of a 12-Euro coin minted in silver together with a further 2-Euro commemorative coin. Both releases are offered together in a coin case.

The two coins come in a de luxe coin case, numbered and limited to 30,000 units.
The cover of the coin case features a replica of the first edition of "The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha", dating from 1605.

12-Euros silver
The face of this coin, minted in sterling silver, portrays the overlappin profiles of Their Majesties King Juan Carlos and Queen Sophia.
The reverse side features Don Quixote of La Mancha reading, seated atop his bookpiles, lance in hand.
The 2-Euro commemorative coin
The 2005 release of the 2-Euro coin is dedicated to the literary work "The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha". The obverse portrays Don Quixote, lance in hand, against a background of windmills.
The reverse side is common to all the Euro zone countries.
