3rd Series Spanish Painters - Goya

Introduction

This set dedicated to the talented artist Francisco de Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828) is the third issue in the series entitled "Spanish Painters", with which we wish to honor the most exceptional Spanish creators throughout history.

This 3rd Series is made up of five collector coins that re-create some of the painter's most well-known works of art.

Details

The set is composed of five proof quality coins, blister-packed and presented in jewel cases. The coins are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by the FNMT-RCM and they are sold in three different presentations: singly, as a Silver Set (grouping the Cincuentín and the three 8-real coins), and as the Complete Set which includes all five coins.

8-escudos gold

This coin with a denomination of 400 Euro, portrays in his obverse a rendering of the etching entitled "Francisco de Goya y Lucientes, a painter".

The reverse of this first coin features a rendering of the etching entitled «Volaverunt».

Both works form part of the "Les Caprices" series that is housed in the Prado Museum, Madrid.

Cincuentin silver

This coin with a face value of 50 Euro reproduces on the obverse the central scene from the oil painting «A garrochista», work than can be viewed at the Prado Museum in Madrid.

The reverse reproduces the oil painting "Aquelarre", housed in the Lázaro Galdiano Fundation, in Madrid.

8 reales-silver "Duel with Cudgels"

The obverse, common to the three silver 8-real coins, reproduces the painting "Self-Portrait". That work can be viewed at the Prado Museum in Madrid.

The reverse of this first 8-real coin that has been given a 10-euro face value depicts the work "Duel with Cudgels", in the Prado Museum as well.

8-reales silver "The Grape Harvest" or "Autumn"

The obverse, common to the three silver 8-real coins, reproduces the painting "Self-Portrait". That work can be viewed at the Prado Museum in Madrid.

The reverse of this second 8-real coin that has been given a 10-euro face value depicts the work "The Grape Harvest" or "Autumn". As in the former case, both works can be viewed at the Prado Museum in Madrid.

8-reales silver "The Clothed Maja"

The obverse, common to the three silver 8-real coins, reproduces the painting "Self-Portrait". That work can be viewed at the Prado Museum in Madrid.

The reverse of this third 8-real coin that has been given a 10-euro face value depicts the work "The Clothed Maja". The work is housed, as is the one featured on the obverse, in the Prado Museum.
