1st Set Treasures in Spanish Museums

This is the first set in the collector coin series entitled "Treasures in Spanish Museums".

The coins that comprise this set illustrate classic works of art that are housed in our country's museums.

This First Set is composed of five coins, each one recreating a painting by Durer, Velazquez, Rafael, Titian or Vicente Lopez.

In this instance, all the works represented form part of the holdings of the Prado Museum.

Details

The set is made up of five proof-minted coins, each presented in its own coin case inside a stylish presentation box.

The coins are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by the FNMT-RCM. They are retailed in three different ways: as single coins, as a Silver Set (the Cincuentin and the three coins of 8 reales), or as a Full Set (all five coins).

8 escudos gold - Durer

This coin with a face value of 400 euros reproduces on the reverse details from the paintings entitled «Adam» and «Eve», both painted in 1507 by Albert Durer. The paintings are housed in the Prado Museum.

The obverse recreates a scene from the work «Self-portrait» painted in 1498 by Albert Durer. The work is housed in the Prado Museum.

Cincuentin silver - Velazquez

This coin with a face value of 50 euros depicts on the reverse the painting «The Spinners or The Fable of Arachne», created around 1657 by Diego R. de Silva y Velázquez. The painting is housed in the Prado Museum.

The obverse replicates a scene from the work entitled «Felipe III on horseback», painted by Diego R. de Silva y Velázquez in 1634-5. The painting is housed in the Prado Museum.

8 reales silver - Raphael

This first 8-reales coin has been assigned a face value of 10 euros. On the reverse is a rendering of the painting entitled «The Holy Family with the Lamb», completed by Raphael in 1507, and today housed in the Prado Museum.

The obverse of this coin reproduces a scene from the work entitled «The Cardinal», painted by Raphael in 1510-11, and housed today in the Prado Museum.

8 reales silver - Titian

The reverse of this second coin of 8 reales, face value of 10 euros, reproduces the painting entitled «Venus and Adonis», executed in 1554 by Vecellio di Gregorio Tiziano (Titian). This painting is held in the Prado Museum.

The obverse replicates a detail from the work entitled «Venus and Music», completed by Titian around 1550, and housed today in the Prado Museum.

8 reales silver - Vicente López

The reverse of this third coin of 8 reales, face value of 10 euros, offers a portrayal of the canvas entitled «The painter Francisco de Goya», executed in 1826 by Vicente López Portaña. This work is housed in the Prado Museum.

The obverse shows a detail from the work «The Dream of Saint Joseph», painted in 1805 by Vicente López Portaña. The painting is held in the Prado Museum.
