Europe Program - The Age of Iron and Glass

Description

Real Casa de la Moneda is launching the second series of collector coins under the Europa Coin Programme Ages of Europe, made up of two coins: one in gold and the other, in silver. On this occasion, the collection is dedicated to the Steel and Glass Age.

The first issue (2016) was dedicated to Contemporary Europe; whilst future issues are to be dedicated to baroque and rococo (2018): the Renaissance (2019); and Gothic (2020).

Finished in proof quality, with the same designs on obverse and reverse, both coins are presented in stylish jewellery cases. They may be acquired individually or as a complete set of two.

The obverse carries an image of His Majesty Felipe VI, wearing the insignia of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

The reverse shows three devices, each placed inside an oval. The upper oval contains an image of the Crystal Palace, situated in the Madrid park, Parque del Retiro; the one to the right, a photograph from Archivo Moreno (the photographic library of Instituto del Patrimonio Cultural de España, MECD), depicting a portrait of Galician writer Rosalía de Castro drawn by Antonio Portal; and the one in the lower left, an image of the replica of the Mataró locomotive, on show at Museo del Ferrocarril de Cataluña, in Vilanova i la Geltrú.
