Emilia Pardo Bazán

Details

As every year, Women's Day is celebrated on 8 March to commemorate the achievements of women all over the world. The Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre-Real Casa de la Moneda joins in this event and issues a coin in tribute to a great woman, Emilia Pardo Bazán, who combined two different roles in her life: artistic work, considered one of the best writers in the history of Spanish literature and recognised as one of the great European writers of her generation, and her role as an activist, leader of women's rights and feminism in Spain at the time, dedicating both her life and her work to defending them.

The coin, with a metric of 8 silver reales, features the symbol of the woman in colour on the central part of the reverse and, on the inside, the portrait of the writer published in the magazine La Ilustración Española y Americana on 8 September 1892.
