8-escudos gold
This coin with a denomination of 400 euros reproduces on the obverse a depiction of the oil painting "Galarina" (1944-1945), a magnificent portrait of Gala, Dali's muse, for whom he felt profound admiration and which is kept, as are the other paintings portrayed in this set (with the exception of the oil "The Temptation of St. Anthony"), in the Gala-Salvador Dali Foundation in Figueres (Gerona).
The reverse of this first coin features the central scene from the oil painting "Tristan and Isolde" (1944). This legend of medieval origin relates the story of two lovers whose hopeless love captured the attention of Dali.
Cincuentín silver
This coin with a face value of 50 euros reproduces on the obverse the central scene from the oil painting "The Spectre of Sex Appeal" (1934), which gives expression to Dali's conflicts with the feminine sex.
The reverse features a rendering of the central scene from the oil "The Temptation of St. Anthony" (1946), painted while Dali was in the United States, and which is of particular significance because it marks the beginning of his later mystical phase that showed his predilection for religious themes.
8-reales silver "Retrospective Bust of a Woman"
The obverse, common to the three silver 8-real coins, reproduces the central scene from the painting "Self-Portrait with l'Humanité" (1923). In this work Dali paints himself dressed as a laborer and acting like an agitator, thus attesting to his admiration for the revolutionary ideas of the time.
The reverse of this first 8-real coin that has been given a 10-euro face value depicts the work "Retrospective Bust of a Woman" (1933).
8-reales silver "Portrait of Pablo Picasso in the 21st Century"
The obverse, common to all three silver 8-real coins, features the central scene from the work "Self-Portrait with l'Humanité" (1923). In this painting, Dalí paints himself dressed as a laborer and acting like an agitator, thus attesting to his admiration for the revolutionary ideas of the time.
The reverse of this second silver 8-real coin that has been given a 10-euro face value reproduces the work "Portrait of Pablo Picasso in the 21st Century" (1947), an oil painting which forms part of the series of portraits of personalities that this universal painter regarded as geniuses.
8 reales silver "Automatic Beginning of a Portrait of Gala"
The obverse, common to the three silver 8-real coins reproduces the central scene from the work "Self-Portrait with l'Humanité" (1923). In this painting Dali paints himself dressed as a laborer and acting like an agitator, thus attesting to his admiration for the revolutionary ideas of the time.
The reverse of the third 8-real coin with a 10-euro face value reproduces the work "Automatic Beginning of a Portrait of Gala" (1932), in which the artist displays his desire to experiment with the different stages of picture composition.
